Assessment of weed root extracts for allelopathic activity against Orobanche and Phelipanche species

چکیده
Broomrapes (Orobanche and Phelipanche species) are holoparasitic weeds that infect roots of crop hosts from Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, Apiaceae, Fabaceae, Solanaceae. The parasitic difficult to control selectively without damage once attached their roots. Identification natural compounds with herbicidal activity against pre-attached broomrape stages can provide alternatives. With the aim identify plant species efficacy for control, organic residual aqueous phase extracts seventeen weed common in south Spanish broomrape-infested fields were assessed as potential inducers suicidal germination inhibitors radicle growth. Assessments carried out vitro using seeds seedlings four noxious species, Orobanche crenata Forsk., cumana Wallr., minor Sm. ramosa (L.) Pomel. While root all did not induce on O. seeds, most induced P. except those obtained Amaranthus albus L., retroflexus L. Convolvulus arvensis Moderate levels by some tested, strongest induction Heliotropium europaeum Silybum marianum Gaertn. seeds. For extract inhibition radicles, C. strongly inhibited radicles species. other low or negligible growth, many radicles. Exceptions Datura stramonium Malva sylvestris Solanum nigrum Urtica dioica which inhibit A. retroflexus, Portulaca oleracea S. nigrum, Among active assessed, showing promising chemical profiles selected future studies characterize early

Recognition of root exudates by seeds of broomrape (Orobanche and Phelipanche) species.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The long co-existence of broomrapes and their hosts within the same environment has culminated in a strong adaptation and effective parasitism. As a first step of specialization in the parasitic process, seed receptors of parasitic plant species vary in their ability to recognize compounds released by their hosts. This work aims to investigate potential patterns for the rece...
متن کاملCharacterization of Resistance Mechanisms in Faba Bean (Vicia faba) against Broomrape Species (Orobanche and Phelipanche spp.)
Faba bean (Vicia faba) production in Mediterranean and Near East agriculture is severely constrained by broomrape infection. The most widely distributed broomrape species affecting faba bean is Orobanche crenata, although O. foetida and Phelipanche aegyptiaca are of local importance. Only moderately resistant cultivars are available to farmers. Rizotrons studies allowed the dissection of resist...

Background: Malassezia spp. is an opportunistic dimorphicBasidiomycetous fungi associated with a variety of diseasesincluding dandruff, atopic eczema, pityriasis versicolor, seborrheicdermatitis and folliculitis. It also causes systemic infectionsin immune compromised patients. The aim of this study wasto evaluate the antimicrobial activity of nettle leaves (Urticadioica), colocynths fruits (Ci...
متن کاملColonisation of field pea roots by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi reduces Orobanche and Phelipanche species seed germination
Pea (Pisum sativum) is an important grain legume crop whose cultivation in the Mediterranean basin and West Asia is severely constrained by infection by the weedy root parasite Orobanche crenata (crenate broomrape). Pea is a false host of other species such as O. minor, O. foetida and Phelipanche aegyptiaca. In the present experiments, we demonstrate that seed germination of the Orobanche and P...
